This incredible one-day trip to Bulgaria will begin early in the morning when we pick you up from your Bucharest hotel or hostel and take you through a breathtaking scenery towards the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, where the adventure begins.
The first site on the journey, St. Dimitrie Basarabov Monastery, is the only Bulgarian example of a cliff-carved edifice that is still inhabited today, and its ambience will leave you speechless. Before we continue to the extraordinary medieval village of Veliko Tarnovo, which was once the medieval capital of Bulgaria, you will have some time to examine this wonderful holy structure.
Prepare to be taken back in time; this beautiful city offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as plenty of history to learn about and breath-taking architecture. The beautiful Tsaravets Fortress, the strongest Bulgarian structure from the Middle Ages, is located in Veliko Tarnovo. This ancient castle, once home to royalty, is now a museum.
The tour will proceed to its final stop, Arbanasi Village, after you have explored Veliko Tarnovo and eaten lunch. Arbanasi Village, located on a high plateau between Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa, offers breathtaking views and amazing specimens of medieval architecture dating back several centuries. This tour is ideal for history buffs and anybody interested in learning more about the past.
